Bombarded by thoughts our human existence often feels overwhelming. However, there is a fundamental truth that gets overlooked continuously: that is that our natural state is already one of enduring peace and it's ALWAYS here, regardless of appearances. Suffering arises when we mistakenly believe that our thoughts reflect reality in any way shape or form. You are not what 'thought' says you are. Today my blog will explore how to return your attention away from the thought matrix of imagination and home to truth, helping us see clearly the path to remembering and living from our inherent, unwavering peace.

Just as an experiment right here...right now contemplate this question - What are you or what is here now without 'thought' defining it? If this question takes you to silence...that is the right answer :)

The True Nature of Our Being

Living only in the Human thought matrix is chaotic, filled with thoughts that either uplift us or weigh us down, a continuous roller coaster. We juggle harsh, painful memories, fears about future scenarios, and the present moment reality of peace seems lost, we continuously search in thoughts and imagination of 'What will make me happy' for a sense of balance. But what if beneath all this 'imagined' chaos of 'thoughts' lies a deeper truth? Beneath these swirling, unending thought streams of past and future, our natural essence is pure calm and peace....ALREADY...without having to do a thing to get it!

Our true, inherent state of being, the presence and curious, baggage free aliveness we were as children is not about emotional highs and lows attained in the thought matrix; it’s a quiet, alive, fully awake awareness hidden beneath the noise of thought, untarnished by thought. Most humans have been programmed in to the matrix of thought by about 2 years old (this is the human condition!) which invariably leads to stress and dissatisfaction. However, simply recognising our infinite, inherent, natural state of causeless peace can significantly transform how we perceive reality. When thought is not continually believed to be defining our reality there is only the peace of our infinite Being.

The Illusion of Suffering

Suffering emerges from our habit of attachment to thoughts and beliefs. We have been trained from birth to believe that arising thoughts are unquestionably true. Suffering feeds on the notion that our thoughts and memories are reality, leading to despair and self-doubt. For example, if thought says "I am unworthy," or "I did something wrong", or "I should have done better" automatically feelings of unworthiness, shame, guilt etc...instantaneously arise in the body to reenact that belief, and so the cycles repeat. Continuous feed back loops of suffering. Whatever we believe obviously feels like its true.

You as Source itself are so powerful that you create your experience of reality out of thoughts. Thoughts become beliefs and beliefs become your experience or your version of reality!! A virtual 3D reality made of thoughts and beliefs!

By realising that suffering is not our default or natural state but rather a side effect of misguided beliefs, we can stop believing our perceptions or distortions of reality. The majority of humans live the effects of negative self-talk, yet this is not our true identity. Thoughts, just like clouds on a sunny day, only 'seemingly' eclipse our clear blue sky essence. Deeply understanding this helps us separate our true identity from arising thoughts.

The Power of Awareness

Cultivating Awareness is a crucial tool in alleviating suffering, by consciously practicing detaching our attention from our thoughts. But detaching our attention isn't really a 'doing', it's a 'being' :). By gently resting the attention in to the present moment without judgment— by relaxing attention away from the grasping of thought completely - we gain insight and awareness of our inner world; sensations, feelings, thoughts (all subtle phenomena). We come home to the body.

Mindfulness allows us to notice thoughts as they arise without automatically buying them. This practice helps us realise that thoughts are temporary and have never actually defined anything about ourselves, our lives, or anybody else!; they are as relevant as the passing breeze, or the sound of birds. By relaxing attention from the magnetic, addictive pull of thoughts i.e just letting them be without buying them, we begin to naturally relax in to our natural state of peace rather than being driven and defined by mental clutter. Our attention starts naturally relaxing in to presence because it feels so good.

Imagine it like you have been so identified by all the activity in the ocean of 'my life'; the fishes, the sharks, the chaos, the ebb and flow of the tide, the storms. You've believed YOU are calm when the ocean is calm and you've believed YOU are angry when the ocean is in a storm. But what if you just allow your attention to relinquish ALL mental and emotional activity...just for 5 mins.... and just sink deeply to the depths of the ocean...where it is ALWAYS untouched....unaffected....regardless of what mind tells you is going on 'up there' :).

You begin to realise over time that you were never the thoughts...that thoughts 'about' you and others and life have never defined anything true! They are just mental activity that need not touch your pristine Being...that what is actually looking out of your eyes and experiencing reality is already infinitely empty..clear and without a 'story in time' about itself :)....it is pure...pristine... innocence.

Embracing Silence

In a world that values constant activity, productivity, 'doing', achieving, silence and stillness can feel underrated, even unnerving. Yet, taking time for silence and stillness, simply 'being' is the best gift you can ever give yourself because it welcomes in and clears space for our inherent profound peace. When we sit in silence—both externally and internally—we create room for self-reflection, we make space for clarity. Of course the mud will come to the surface first...but stillness will purify the mud.

For instance, researchers have found that spending just two hours a week in nature can lead to measurable improvements in mental clarity and well-being. Embracing silence allows us to be aware when our pristine attention is buying in to suffering thoughts.

It is in the quiet that we discover our infinitely peaceful essence just patiently waiting to be noticed beneath the chaos of thoughts defining daily life. It is not our daily lives that are chaotic it is our thoughts continuously defining them as such.

Our true nature is eternal silence, deep, unwavering peace, simply experiencing itself as a 'thinking' human. Who'd have thought!! :).

Practical Steps Towards Remembering Our Natural State

You gotta be in it to win it!!

  • Develop a Mindfulness Practice

Start with even just five minutes of meditation daily. Focus on your breath and let thoughts drift by. Completely relax your attention. With consistency you'll notice how this small practice can transform your state of mind... your body will immediately benefit from relaxing focus away from 'thoughts'. The cells of our body are continuously responding to the vibrational frequency of our thoughts, whether you believe it or not! You'll also notice how thought says "I don't have time"..."I'll do it tomorrow"..."Oh I can't meditate" etc...etc...all the excuses 'thought' throws up, that we believe :)(email me if you'd like a free track to guide you - there's also plenty on youtube).

  • Journaling

Write down your persistent thoughts and feelings daily. This simple act externalises your thoughts...clarifies your mind space. It can reveal karmic thought patterns and provide greater clarity. For many, this practice leads to insights about recurring negative thoughts. They are just inherited genetic and conditioned neural patterns (a program running).

  • Bathing in Nature

Spend at least 15 minutes a day outdoors, paying attention to the beauty, the trees, the nature around you. This connection can ground you, expand your consciousness and remind you of your inherent peace; our true Being.

  • Limiting Exposure to Negative Inputs

Reduce time spent on social media, news or people that fosters and perpetuates negativity. Studies suggest that flipping negative media consumption can lower stress levels significantly.

Eating and sleeping healthily and daily exercise are essential for calming a wired nervous system. When the nervous system is calmer there's more space to reconnect or be aware of our inherent peace. The myth is we have to bring our being to peace but the reverse is true; the inherent peace is already what we are, we just need to bring our attention home, shift our awareness, away from the tantalising dance of thought, to rest as it. You see we NEVER were the thought stories about ourselves, our lives, our past and future. We were and are always infinite silence...presence.

These practices must become a way of life...not just something you do for a week and decide it doesn't work.

If peace is truly what is sought...it must be your only goal. This seems to happen only when one has suffered enough.

The Journey Ahead

As we navigate the journey of realising and living as our natural state, it's important to remember that this path is not always straight and linear. It is a continuous flow with moments of clarity and deep insights and moments of huge fear and doubt. Each experience, each revelation and insight whether positive or negative, brings us closer to home. You can't get this wrong! Everyone is on their own unique path home to the conscious awareness of God or Source. The eternal benevolent Being of love.

Awareness is crucial. With time, patience, self love and continuous practice, we really begin to accept and internalise the idea that our thoughts are not reality. It is a game changer! The more we can observe our thoughts without judgment, without 'believing' them or being afraid that they define us, the clearer it becomes that our essence is and always has been rooted in infinite, unwavering peace, not in suffering. What we really are has always remained pristine and untouched my our minds version of reality.

Remembering the Unwavering Peace Beneath the Surface of 'appearances'

In the end, remembering and consciously returning our attention to our natural state of peace continuously, allows us to evolve to higher ground beyond the suffering experience of separation created by thoughts. Although thoughts can feel so compelling, so convincing, they have NEVER defined you, your life, or anybody else!

This can be terrifying for the mind but simultaneously so liberating for the Life force (which is what you are :).

After consistently returning attention to our true nature, the one who seems to be returning the attention also dissolves...and all that remains is peace :)...A peace with an infinite depth such that it effortlessly weathers the storms of the inevitable changes and highs and lows of life. A silent peace that is indefinable and yet it IS every arising!

Understanding that ALL suffering stems from believing false narratives suggested by our minds, we dedicate our lives (if we are serious about freedom and peace :)) to cultivating mindfulness and awareness. Embracing silence, along with practices that foster awareness, helps us experience life way more peacefully.

As we embark on this journey to uncover what lies beneath, may we always remember that under the chaotic thoughts and imagination of our minds, there already exists a profound, unwavering peace, a pure, unconditional love, the One that is ready and has been waiting patiently for ever for our return.

Come home to love now....
