Meditation is a state achieved by focusing ones attention or awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. It is a therapeutic technique that calms the nervous system because while you are accepting and allowing you are not in resistance to whatever is happening. You are so to speak ‘in flow’ with 'what is'..
It is one of the most powerful tools for calming the nervous system and bringing attention out of our depleting thought patterns (in our heads) and back in to the body….where we need to be in order to firstly calm then heal our nervous systems.
When we are anxious the mind tries to think its way to safety but we can’t think our way to a feeling of safety.
We need to be ‘in’ our body to heal and calm our nervous system.
Meditation also enables us to loosen our grip on dogmatic thinking and just to be more open and responsive to life.
