Beyond the Fix-It Mind: Waking Up to Your True Nature

We live in a culture obsessed with self-improvement and a need to be and have MORE! From the moment we wake up, our analytical minds are bombarded with messages telling us to change, manifest, and fix our lives. We treat ourselves like broken machines, believing that if we can just manipulate appearance, lose a little weight, buy the right products, or master a new psychological trick, we will finally reach an imaginary finish line of perfect okness and safety.

But what if that very belief that we need fixing is the actual trance keeping us stuck?

The Illusion of the "Efforting Mind"

When we experience severe anxiety, OCD, or chronic overwhelm, our nervous system is locked in survival mode. The brain's threat-detection radar is running at 100 miles an hour, frantically scanning the environment for defects to police and problems to solve.

To cope, the mind creates an elaborate mask of hyper-vigilance. It tells a story of lack. It convinces us that more mental effort, more worry, and more control will eventually bring us peace.

In reality, the opposite is true. The efforting mind is structurally incapable of experiencing stillness and peace. It is merely a conditioned program; a series of automated thoughts, images, and repeating neural patterns. Trying to find peace by constantly thinking about it is like trying to wash off blood with blood. It is its own infinite loop of effort, going nowhere.

The Art of Dehypnotisation

True healing isn’t about building a "better" version of ourselves. It is about dehypnotising or detaching our essential Being from the old, programmed neural pathways of lack and fear.

Beneath the noise of our thoughts, the repeating nervous system tension, and the heavy armour of conditioning, there is a part of us that has never suffered a millisecond in its life. That which looks out of our eyes right now is an eternal, pristine, effortless and unknowable silence…Pure Being.

This effortless Being is our only true, essential or real nature.

When we use the breath to softly open, deeply exhale and return our attention to presence, we aren't trying to achieve a perfect meditative state. We are doing something far more profound: we are informing the subconscious mind that the internal war and resistance to ‘what is here, naturally’ is over. We are giving the body's deeper intelligence the green light to drop its survival, protective armour of resistance, effortlessly scan the system, and permanently delete the old, exhausting files that no longer serve us. By not feeding them with our belief in them and attention to them, they are starved of life force energy and are naturally integrated and dissolved.

Returning to Homeostasis

The moment the mind surrenders its control or rather imaginary control is seen as an illusion, resistance effortlessly dissolves, the physical body naturally returns to homeostasis—its built-in baseline of perfect balance, regulated hormones, and cellular peace.

We don’t have to exhaust ourselves trying to forcefully create new neural pathways. The brain possesses an inherent, self-healing intelligence. When the congested traffic jams of survival conditioning are cleared away, healthy, vibrant and more aligned neural pathways naturally arise and develop on their own. Perceptions change and evolve and as perceptions change new, fresh conditioning is laid down.

The brain is never static; it is an open, dynamic system that is continually conditioning itself based on whatever we feed it, whatever we give our attention to. It never stops laying down new tracks.

The massive shift I am describing is that we stop conditioning the brain with the stale, old data of the survival mind (fear, lack, policing, hyper-vigilance) and start conditioning it with fresh, present-moment perceptions.

When we rest effortlessly as pure Presence, our essential state of Being, we perceive the world without the old distortion filters. We see a thought as just a passing, insubstantial cloud, based on old, irrelevant data. We perceive a visit from a relative or friend as just raw, fresh energy arising momentarily. Because these fresh perceptions are rooted in safety, openness, neutrality or unconditional love, the "new conditioning" laid down in your neural pathways naturally reflects that calm baseline. We are continually rewiring the computer, but now we are running on the clean, updated software of our true Being!

Living with the Curiosity of a Child

Waking up from the conditioned survival trance of fear and limitation doesn't mean we become a blank slate or lose our humanity. Instead, it frees us to experience the soul's true individual expression, arising fresh from moment to moment.

We start discovering more and more of our unique, authentic expression.

Our genetics and our past experiences have given us a unique human paint palette, our natural preferences, the things we like, and the unique traits of our character. But they are no longer our limited prison.

Once our true self is remembered, reawakened, life shifts from survival-based fear into an open space of love, authenticity, and wonder. Life becomes a joyful, ongoing exploration. We step back into the curiosity of a child, free to play the character, explore the world, and discover what we genuinely love—completely liberated from the old drivers of fear and conditioning.

Within each inhalation, reality seemingly arises…

Within each exhalation, reality seemingly dissolves…

Just an infinite play in form...

Birth and death arising simultaneously…eternally… within every breath….

The unshakeable ground of Presence is already here.

We don’t have to reach it, understand it, or manifest it.

We already are it…

Eternally in presence…
